The Amazon basin has humidity of around 80–85% throughout the year and receives an average of approximately 2,300 mm of rainfall annually. Because it lies on the equator, the Amazon rainforest receives 12 hours of sunlight every day of the year. These unique conditions create exceptionally favourable conditions for Copaiba trees to grow.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e \u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eHow does it work?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e  \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe essential oil is obtained by steam distilling the oil-rich resin of the Copaiba tree. Similar to tapping a maple tree for syrup, the Copaiba tree is tapped for its resin. Copaiba trees in the Amazon region are inaccessible for around six months of the year. From January to June, however, the rainy season arrives in the river region. During this period, the river and its tributaries rise by an average of six metres or even more, making the Copaiba trees accessible by boat. When a tree is tapped for the first time, a certain amount of oleoresin can be collected immediately. The opening is then sealed and the tree is tapped once or twice more later in the year. The amount of oleoresin produced depends on the diameter of the trunk, the size of the crown and the tree’s position within the rainforest canopy, but on average each tree can produce around two to six litres of oleoresin per year.
